I’ve struggled with food as long as I could remember. The list of what I couldn’t eat was getting longer by the day. I would switch diets frequently only to find, after initial benefits, my digestive system would collapse on me again. Years of working hard and pushing myself was starting to add up and I was losing the battle. I didn’t have many reserves left and was running on fumes.
As far as anyone else was concerned I was healthy. As far as I was concerned I was fine. Except I wasn’t. When I finally sat down with Helen and talked through the list of things I was coping with it started to look pretty dreary. I was feeling pretty dreary.
I had my gallbladder removed at age 16 which had left me with a mis-firing digestive system. I literally couldn’t eat the food I needed to sustain me.
Once I started working with Helen the results started to show rapidly. My body quickly responded to my new way of eating. I was already fit and active but my body quickly adapted to additional protein and I lost body fat and gained lean muscle mass. I started to see an athlete rather than a tired resemblance of a human. I had more energy and mental stamina.
Don’t get me wrong, the KetoFlu was awful and there was a week I spent staring at the wall. I also definately felt hungry for about two weeks and dreamed of all the things I wasn’t supposed to eat. Quitting sugar and flour is not an easy thing to do but it’s completely worth it. I never thought I would say that out loud. Ever.
I feel like I have my life back. Before I was dragging myself from meeting to meeting, propped up on caffeine and adrenaline. Now I am doing long yoga sessions, blitzing my inbox and can do my long meetings with minimal wear and tear.
It’s been a huge life change but it’s so worth it. It’s so achievable, Helen is there to guide and support you all the way with her firm belief we are all different. There are no rules, just a lot of experimentation, learning and adjusting where needed. Her entry-program says it all, she calls it “Discovery”. I discovered I could eat protein, I could survive without bread and I could also establish a routine in my life that supported my health.
